That "grape brick" tactic is still used in some forms today to allow the sale of otherwise illegal substances. @rasheed youfree alrajhi No, it would take waaaaay too long in comparison of using lasers, since lasers move at the speed of light and it still takes 8 minutes from the sun to the earth, while the robots could take a year to even get to the sun. Only downside to using lasers to transfer energy is that the receiving end (a space station, most likely) needs to be in direct line of sight of the sun.

The post of the actor at the end reminds me of some greek comedy movies my family used to watch. In most of them there was this actor in his 60s playing and in all the movies he went for girls in their twenties, what's even more disgusting is that in some of them he even sexually assaulted them. Ofc people back than thought nothing of it other than "just a man being a man" and laughed when the girls showed any discomfort (they made it seem funny in the movies) I grew up and noticed there was sooo much wrong, I even tried to explain to my parents but they just said that's how movies were made. Very disturbing. I'm glad that actor stopped playing roles he wasn't made for anymore.

@Lord Smallest It would not be a smart idea to concentrate all that energy onto Earth, unless you might want to fry/sterilize the planet. Also it's usually not intended as a rigid sphere around a star, since that would not only be incredibly hard to build, but also super hard to maintain. Rather it's a swarm of satellites and space habitats spread out across many different orbits so that they envelop the star like a thick cloud and absorb all usable energy from the star in the centre.

Exactly! Someone totally made that on purpose. You'd have to keep supplying it with moisture for them to grow like that. Also, the mushrooms are growing up, meaning the book was standing up, but can't be in a bookshelf because they also grew on the side that should be flush against the wall.

The Dyson sphere part is half right, we do not have resources on out planets, but our planets only make up 10 percent of the solar systems mass. I think 50 or 60 is the sun and 30 or 40 is the astroid belt. But if we bring the kaiper belt into the mix it has more surface area combined to the Sun by it's self (it doesn't matter because it is mostly ice and very little minerals) still I do not understand why you would want a dyson sphere in our solar system without testing on a smaller, less powerful sun away from the general populous. I would prefer researching into an orbital mirror for venus since it is on the edge of the habitual zone and if we get rid of the greenhouse gases and methane it would be a better alternative that Mars, it would not only have similar gravity to Earth but Venus Inhabitants would look similar to Earthlings, where as Martians would look reddish and taller.

@Aaron McCullers great argument except that one small mess up in code, one small miscalculation in size or trajectory could mean no more Sun or The Sun expanding into a Red Giant or somehow go supernova I would prefer a similar sized Star with similar color would be the first option of research before we build a dyson sphere on our Star. Science is so successful because it has been about patience rather than getting the answer as soon as possible.

While I also question the idea of building a full Dyson Sphere around our Sun, I do think that the debate on how it could be achieved is important. As for why I am against it, as the Sun is a major source of light and heat for our planet, preventing sunlight from reaching us by building a full Dyson Sphere would pretty much destroy us. A partial Dyson Sphere that does not cover the parts of the sun that significantly impact our planet's sunlight (basically the top and bottom of the Sun) would be more acceptable as we can absorb plenty of power from the Sun, reduce resource cost, and still allow Earth to get sunlight. That being said, it is worth making estimates on how to build a Dyson Sphere around our own Sun as we know more about it than other stars and are able to make better calculations around the construction and benefits of a Dyson Sphere which we can then scale to non-essential stars based on models made around our own star. Also, in order to afford the resource cost and labor requirements to build a Dyson Sphere we as a species would likely need our civilizations to reach the point where we control several habitable planents and own several more solar systems so the debate now would help down the line to then. Plus we frankly would not need the amount of power outputted by a full Dyson Sphere until we reached that stage. TL,DR: Dyson Sphere discussions are frankly only going to be possible and benefitially to humanity after we form a galactic civilization. Being able to form a galactic civilization through terraforming planets is definetly a higher priority since it will lead to humanity being able to afford a Dyson Sphere and create a need for one.

The "Reason we can't build a dyson sphear" one fails to understand, any society looking to properly build one is likely not limited to their own planet and most likely not even their own solar system. Also fails to consider the idea of mineing out an entire planet, core and all.
