I lost my father last year in April through suicide. I wished he would've talked more with me about his demons ( Army veteran served in Iraq) and his issue with my mom. I think this song would've helped my dad. He was a Metallica fan too. Wish you were here dad love you! I miss you so much!

I'm 55 myself, and saw these guys back in 1986 in Chicago and it's STILL one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I've been able to teach my youngest (16) about the great songs Metallica, and bands like Sabbaton MADE in the past, now he gets to hear and see something new with Dad.
As a survivor I am all for removing the taboo around the word and talking about it more. Metallica has always been good about confronting mental illness and addressing the human condition. And another excellent song comes from it!

Yeah. I was disappointed with Justice and Black albums. They seemed to be struggling (I thought) after Cliff's passing, but they are coming back. And honestly...now that I've grown up, their Justice and Black albums are good too.
As a person that lost my best friend to suicide at age 18 in the year 2002, and then seriously thought about it myself in 2015, I can tell you that there are always people that you can go to for help. Whether that be a friend, family member, counselor, group, therapist, etc. Its now 2023 (Im gonna be 40 this year!) and Im living the best life I could ever have dreamed of. Please, dont ever give up!
I can feel you brother. Lost my father to depression and suicide few years ago.... I was hitting that same edge mentally many times and thought of it myself numerous times... This is why songs like this, Fade to Black and some other songs for the same matter bring tears to my eyes in depressing manner. It least they help let off some of the steam that is building inside our minds...

We'd just had a baby so she took up most of me and her mom's time so I feel like he may have felt like we didn't have time for him anymore. That or he figured we had enough to worry about w a new baby. I miss him every day
The riffs are simple but catchy which is the difference between Metallica and some other Metal bands , their riffs are easy to remember in your head after listening to them .

I have been a fan since they released "No Life 'Til Leather" as an EP. Been with them ever since. I love this band, all of the members over the years, and the history they have. Their music transcends normal metal with a vigor that no other band can match. Thank you, thank you, thank you for producing this song!! It speaks loudly of the demons everyone fights everyday, even when we are happy, we still have those demons lurking in the dark, waiting to show their deceptive sides to us, trying to make us feel not worthy. WE ARE WORTHY!!! Kick some more ass Metallica!! I hope these guys never stop playing. Love the song! Everything off of the new album so far has been outstanding, some of their best stuff so far. This song kicks some serious ass. You can really hear on this album they’re going back to the roots alittle and I LOVE IT! Might be the best song they’ve released in 20 years imo.
I love this song, my cousin died a few months ago too suicide. I've been feeling down myself and feeling like it's my fault, I really think this song helps and it was released at the right time. Thanks for the song it's one of my favorites now.

Thanks Metallica for this song. There's some nights that I can't sleep, thinking about why am I still here if I just disappoint everyone that loves me. Thinking about if it's still worthy to be alive and try to be a better person when you can't see the light coming anymore. I have so much difficult to forgive myself about the things I did, I'm feeling like a monster. But this song gave me the opportunity to see that things can change one day... I discovered Metallica with a "single'" cassette tape at a radio station event when they were releasing the Black album. Enter Sandman was my introduction and And Justice For All is my favorite album. All these years later, they're still killing it.

Well since everyone else feels comfortable sharing their story, I guess I will too. I’ve battled addiction for more than a decade (started when I was just 17, I’m 31 now) along with depression and borderline personality disorder. I’ve had these thoughts since I could remember. Whether it’s just bad wiring or a personality flaw, there’s never a reason to cheat yourself out of your own experience. I’ve been there where you don’t even want to get out of bed, brush your teeth or get a shower. But there’s always a reason to continue the fight and hold on for one more day- it does get better. About 4 years ago I admitted to some people around me (as well as doctors) about these thoughts and I can’t even begin to express to you how shameful and uncomfortable the entire room became. This song is right on the money about suicide being a taboo subject and off-putting, but the truth is that a lot of us have thought about it. Never let the voice in your head win. As someone who has struggled with mental (and physical) health most of my life, this really resonates. I'm in a much better place now thankfully mostly (mentally at least). Though for many years I couldn't listen to Fade to Black as it cut just that bit too close to the bone for me for years. I'm really looking forward to the new album on the strength of the 3 songs released so far.

@Richard Z pity? Why should they? They're are not on their 20s anymore. As anybody else, they changed as individuals. Also, do you think any musician enjoys playing the same stuff for decades? I'm a musician myself for a bit over 20 years, and my music nowadays is nowhere near similar to what they used to be. Imagine them playing for over 40 years...

Recently, especially this month ive been experiencing a ton of negative thoughts and this song has been helping. Its like its saying “Hey these thoughts are normal, and they will go away sometime, just keep going.” Especially the last part. Its like a message im clinging to. This is Ride The Lighting Metallica with a blitzkrieg pace, but with polished production. RTL was all about war, the death penalty, the old testament and also suicide. Sreaming Suicide is another song with meaning. Love this track!
Metallica is one of the few bands that write a song and you can have a flashback to their earlier albums. This has a mix of their last album, Load and Reload. It's solid. I'm so fortunate to have their music in my life for so long.

This is the best and most passionate and organic Metallica has sounded since a long time ago. The groove, the amazing vocals, battering drums, bluesy solos, tight bass, the fire is once again real and genuine, the boys are back.
@Ron Douglasit’s cheaper than the last tour though if you think about it. Almost $400 for GA floor tickets on the last tour and it was just Metallica and another younger metal band like a7x or volbeat. And on the second leg it was just Jim Bruer being a hype man. At least on this one you’re getting 2 unique metallica sets (supposedly), a Pantera tribute that’s bringing houses down, and I don’t really care about 5 fingers and a donkey punch, but Wolfgang Van Halen is pretty cool.

This song is getting better and better every time i head it 🤘i saw them back i 1986 for the first time …and like a marrige there has been some lows but mostly highs …….love this band
Gotta say, this album so far is Lars' best performance since black. His drumming is on point, no useless awkward fills, he doesn't keep feel the need to keep time anywhere a drum beat is unnecessary. His playing is tasteful.
