@mwlnyc Před měsícem
if I had to take a guess the titanium was a fix for an unusually breakable design. They went as far as they could, and then made the glass back “removable for repair”. I think most people would sacrifice a small increase in thickness for guaranteed durability. But apples technology superiority, or lack there of, probably drove them to make this compromise for marketing efforts. Kind of shortsighted for the highest margin product you sell.
@MrFlarespeed Před měsícem
Interestingly, titanium and aluminum have the same yield strength, but titanium has a higher tensile strength. What this means is that aluminum and titanium will start plasticly (laymans terms: permanently) deforming at the same pressure, but break at different pressures. What this means for the phone is that the glass would shatter at relatively the same pressure regardless of the case material.
@GrandHighGamer Před měsícem
Call me crazy, but I think it'd be fine with just not having a glass back. It'd be thinner *and* more durable since no one's breaking the titanium.

@sentryfe74 Před 2 měsíci
I think the major flaw with the 15 pro and 15 pro max is the large hole for the wireless charging coil in the mid frame. Not only does it make the whole phone weaker, but also doesn’t absorb and distribute heat properly. The cheaper 15 and plus have a solid middle frame. Better design.

It would be if not for that stupid board in the center of the port! If only someone had developed a port that didn’t have a PCB board just floating in the center held on by 1mm of attachment.
The back glass could be broken due to the big gab between itself and the round hole in the alluminum chasis, considering also that the Pro max has a depth of 8.3mm. on the other hand, a similar behaviour won't be found on the 15 plus which has a depth of 7.8mm, basically the glass fit on the chasis perfectly with zero gab.

@gruntythegreat3335 Před 2 měsíci
Honestly, a solid reason for why this happened could have just been a simple oversight on the part of apple. Most likely, the reason for this is that the harder, stiffer titanium, doesn't distribute the force the way that aluminum does, resulting in the glass giving way under even the slightest pressure.
@thelifeaquatica Před měsícem
It's the new glass design by the cameras, the corner pinched the glass when bent and it cracked. I wonder if apple could graduate the glass a bit around the camera bump to make it a little bit thicker to prevent that from happening.

@attyjosh Před 2 měsíci
Ok. The iPhone 15 PMax didn't actually bend. The titanium remained the same in its structural condition. The glass back panel (which is bigger in dimension than the regular pro) cracked during the bend test naturally because the titanium frame is too strong and it won't bend, and as such, during the test, more pressure was applied against the glass panel than is necessary.

I have two possible theories for why the back shattered during the bend test. One possibility is there's a tiny void of space behind that glass right below the camera module, and when you started bending it that void allowed the glass to flex to it's breaking point. Kind of like how a floor tile with an air gap underneath is easier to break and sounds different when stepped on. The other possibility is the edge of the camera module dug into the glass when you started bending it, as that seems to be where the cracks propagate from. I'm curious if all 15 pro max phones exhibit this behavior or if this was a fluke.
@masterofwriters4176 Před 2 měsíci
1:42 but wouldn’t the titanium chassie have a volume close to the sheet you were holding and therefore be relatively cheep? Or would you actually need to start with a block the size of the phone and remove the inside to make a chassie?
@Cleitonv_lima Před měsícem
When he said, ‘The crack looks pretty cool,’ I subscribed to his channel, hahaha. Most of the reviews only emphasize the ‘cool features’ of the new iPhones, which are primarily updates to the camera and iOS (similar to the previous version). Finally, I’ve found someone who’s honest about it.
@lukas6610 Před 2 měsíci
Titanium isn't stiff. Stainless steel would've been better for the frame if you don't want it to bend. It wouldn't scratch as easily without a coating but honestly in normal use I'd be more worried about scratching the screen. So yeah titanium is great for watches or frames for glasses because of its light weight and scratch resistence but I don't see the point on phones.
@tonglianheng Před měsícem
Titanium is just light. It is amongst the least scratch resistant metals in consumer products. It is less scratch resistant than anodised aluminium. If you want scratch resistance get something made out of blade grade stainless steel like 440C.

Ive seen other tests on here and most other iphone 15 pro maxs survive the same durability tests and more so could you please try this test again although mine is about a month newer than this video so they could have fixed it but im not sure anyways the phone seems really good and that crack was very surprising so it just makes since to do the same test to another for confirmation because this does make usual apple users worry as myself for spending as much as it is for it to see the back glass break so easily so id really appreciate if you did thanks.
@Liamhoward24506 Před měsícem
The reason that the back glass shattered so quickly was because that apple put another titanium cover that was supposed to support the back glass but the put it on the actual phone not the back panel.

@kabloosh699 Před 2 měsíci
I got an aluminum and titanium ridge wallet and what I've noticed between the two the aluminum one is more scratch resistant. It must be due to the anodized finish. Really shows while the titanium is cool looking it isn't necessarily more resilient than other cheaper materials.

@solandri69 Před 2 měsíci
The stupid thing is the USB-C spec allows alternate modes. Two devices connected via USB-C can negotiate to use the USB data wires to carry signals other than USB. That's how HDMI, DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt (which is just PCIe) over USB-C work. Apple could easily have made a Lightning alternate mode and put a USB-C port on its phones 8 years ago, without losing compatibility with pre-existing Lightning devices.

@Oakcitydetailing Před měsícem
Apple just wants our money at this point. They make it delicate so you can spend more money, it’s form over function with them. Very little changes to the 15. Just my thoughts commenting on here. I am happy with the 13 pro that I have. And made it more useful than people I know with the 14 and the 15. It’s all about what you use the phone for too!

I know is expensive but can you do a second bent test on another new iPhone 15 Pro Max to see if survive or not? (Maybe your first iPhone 15 Pro max back glass might have defected). A few youtuber did the bent test and it survived. So was still curious from your bent experiment, if the second iPhone 15 Pro Max still don't survive, I guess everyone has the solid answer on the 15 pro max.

@SpeedfrkOne Před 2 měsíci
It does seem people have not really researched the main reason why this would occur relatively easily. Apple mentioned their repair costs for the rear glass have reduced, however Apple never makes a loss, so in exchange for the cheaper repair prices the rear glass on the new 15 models is thinner and weaker compared to previous models, which ironically means more repairs and more money for Apple - the old rob Pete to pay Paul. People whinged about repair costs (I’ve never repaired an Apple product in my life) so Apple reduced it in exchange for less durability. Best recommendation - AppleCare.
@amoghhs4440 Před měsícem
Retest is required as many other CS-vidrs have had different experiences some had it in drop tests others have it flawless
Conclusion: It doesn't matter if you get a titanium or stainless steel frame, you need to pay extra to repair back glass 😂
